Terms of Service

These terms cover the Sentinel Circle app, published by Sentinel Circle ("we", "us"). By downloading, installing or using Sentinel Circle, you agree to them. If you don't agree, don't use the app. Effective date: 2026-09-24

1. What Sentinel Circle is — and isn't​

Sentinel Circle is an assistive monitoring tool. It watches conditions you configure (a Wi-Fi network, a Bluetooth beacon, an email, a notification, or an unrecognized nearby device) and alerts the caregivers you set up when something changes.

Sentinel Circle is not a medical device, a security system, or a substitute for in-person care, supervision or professional medical advice. It is one layer among several you should have in place for someone with declining cognitive function — not the only one. In particular:

  • A sensor can only report what it observed from the phone it runs on. A dead battery, a phone left behind, a disabled permission, a network outage, or Bluetooth being switched off can all mean no alert is sent even though something you'd want to know about has happened.
  • Delivery of an alert (SMS, phone call, email, WhatsApp, or an on-device alarm) depends on services outside our control — your phone carrier, your email provider, WhatsApp, and Android itself — and can fail, be delayed, or be silently blocked by any of them.
  • We strongly recommend using Sentinel Circle alongside a dedicated real-time location-tracking app, not instead of one, and alongside — not instead of — whatever in-person care and supervision arrangements are appropriate for the person's needs.

You are solely responsible for deciding whether Sentinel Circle is an appropriate tool for your situation, and for having other safety measures in place. Read the in-app disclaimer shown at first launch (and again after major updates) before relying on the app for anything.

Before configuring Sentinel Circle to watch a person's location, devices, or communications, you must have the legal right to do so. What that means depends on the person:

  • If the person is able to understand and decide for themselves, you need their informed consent.
  • If the person is not able to give informed consent — for example because of dementia or another condition affecting their capacity — you must hold legal authority to make this kind of decision on their behalf: a power of attorney that covers their personal care, a court-appointed guardianship, status as their substitute decision-maker, or whatever equivalent your jurisdiction recognizes. Being a relative or a caregiver does not, on its own, give you that authority.

Laws about monitoring another adult, and about who may decide for someone who cannot decide for themselves, vary by jurisdiction. Using the app in a way that isn't legally permitted where you are is your responsibility, not ours. Don't use Sentinel Circle to monitor someone covertly, or in a way that violates their legal rights.

3. Your account and purchases​

Sentinel Circle has no account system of its own — there is nothing to sign up for. The optional paid upgrade (removing the free-tier's sensor/channel/monitor limits) is a one-time in-app purchase handled entirely by Google Play; its billing, refund and dispute process is Google Play's own, not ours. We don't see or store your payment details.

4. Acceptable use​

You agree not to:

  • Use Sentinel Circle to stalk, harass, or monitor someone without the consent or legal authority described in section 2;
  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, or redistribute the app outside of official app store channels;
  • Use the app in a way that violates applicable law.

5. No warranty​

Sentinel Circle is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that every condition it's configured to watch will always be correctly detected or reported.

6. Limitation of liability​

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, revenue, or — most importantly for an app like this — any harm arising from a missed, delayed, or failed alert, or from reliance on the app in place of appropriate in-person care or supervision. This limitation applies regardless of the legal theory the claim is based on, to the fullest extent the law where you live allows.

Where liability cannot be excluded, our total liability to you for all claims arising out of or relating to Sentinel Circle, taken together, will not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us for the app and (b) CAD $50. This cap does not apply to liability that cannot be limited under the law of your jurisdiction, including liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud.

Some jurisdictions don't allow the exclusion or limitation of certain warranties or damages, so some of the above limitations may not apply to you.

7. Your responsibility for how you use the app​

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from any third-party claim, loss, or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising from (a) your breach of these terms, (b) your use of Sentinel Circle to monitor a person without the consent or legal authority required under section 2, or (c) your violation of any law in connection with your use of the app. This does not cover claims caused by our own negligence or our own breach of these terms.

8. Changes to these terms​

We may update these terms as the app changes. A material change is reflected in a new effective date above, and the in-app disclaimer's acceptance is re-requested after an app update that changes it, the same way it already is after any update.

9. Termination​

You may stop using Sentinel Circle at any time by uninstalling it. We may update or discontinue the app at any time; nothing here obligates us to continue supporting any particular version.

10. Governing law​

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, without regard to conflict of laws principles. Nothing in this section limits any non-waivable consumer protection rights you may have under the mandatory laws of your own jurisdiction of residence. If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect.
